A colleague of mine (Todd Quilici) brought me to this article on the Ultimate Battlefield 3. After installing some serious hardware and doing some serious hard work tweaking it, these folks provide a full on, completely immersive gaming experience complete with paint ball hits when you are shot. It’s absolutely, unequivocally amazing. Yeah it’s existing technology; no it’s not easily commercializable but it clearly provides a peek of the future holodeck. Wicked cool gaming.

Now think training. Driver’s Ed with a fender bender if you hit the car ahead of you. A scraped up door if you get too close to that dumpster. Now think flight simulators for pilots. They’re good now, but imagine the ability to change the view and plane behavior based on the pilots moving. The overall affect of turbulence could be enhanced as well.

Now back to the battlefield..
